Toddler dumped on the side of the road in Midrand, taken to place of safety

A young boy, who is believed to be 2 to 3 years old, was taken to a place of safety after he was abandoned on the side of the road in Midrand on Sunday afternoon, according to the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD).

JMPD said it was alleged by a witness that an unknown woman who was driving a white Volkswagen Polo with a male and female passenger abandoned the boy who is between two and three years old and drove off.

A young boy, who is believed to be 2 to 3 years old, was taken to a place of safety after he was abandoned on the side of the road in Midrand on Sunday afternoon, according to the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD).

“It’s alleged by a witness that an unknown woman who was driving a white Volkswagen Polo with a male and female passenger, abandoned the boy, who is between two and three years old, and drove off.

“Unfortunately, no one was able to get the vehicle’s registration plates,” JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said.

Fihla added that off-duty officer Sithembile Malgas, who was at home at the time, was called to the scene in Sagewood Street in Noordwyk.

Malgas and the witness took the child to the Midrand police station and shortly afterwards, he was taken to a place of safety, Fihla said.

A case of child neglect has been opened.
